I am John Kennedy, a scientific consultant with over 20 years experience in climate research, dataset development and climate monitoring. My research work focuses on understanding and communicating uncertainty in climate data.
I developed the HadSST4 dataset which is the ocean component of the widely used HadCRUT5 and Berkeley Earth global temperature datasets. I also developed the sea-surface temperature component of the HadISST2 dataset used in the ERA5 reanalysis.
I am cochair of the WMO Expert Team on Monitoring and Communicating Climate Variability and Change and lead author of the WMO's flagship State of the Global Climate reports from 2018 to present.
